Happy Saturday! Our first three days of the third grade were outstanding! I am enjoying your kids so much. We spent most of our time practicing procedures and getting to know each other this week. Your children are working so hard. I am looking forward to a wonderful year with each and every one of them. Here's a window into our 3rd grade world for the upcoming week.
Important Information:
*Benchmark testing is this week.
*Your child may bring a healthy snack starting on Monday. We will have snack for the next two weeks, but then they should be adjusted to the new routine of school.
*Please feel free to send your child with a water bottle.
Math: We will begin the concept of multiplication. We will explore equal groups and how arrays represent multiplication problems. We will also explore factors and determine if they represent the size of the group or the number of groups. On Friday, we will celebrate our introduction to multiplication with "Array Day". Information will be sent home on Monday regarding this fun activity. Your child's Reflex password was sent home on Friday. Reflex will be one piece of homework every Monday. Your child will have additional math homework on most nights. However, we do a lot of practice in class on the practice pages, which serve as a guide to the homework assignment.
Reading: We will practice the procedures for our "Read to Self" and "Partner Reading" times. We will also practice the strategy of P.Q.A, which means to put words from the question in your answer. We will also read, "Lost and Found", and discuss the character traits of the main characters. The reading log will be sent home for homework on Monday and is due on Friday. The goal is for your child to read 75 minutes per week and to learn how to respond to what they are reading by thoroughly answering the questions that are on the log.
Writing: We will begin our first writing assignment, which is about a favorite memory from summer. More information regarding this will be sent home on Monday as well.
Shurley English: We will practice the types of sentences, which are declarative, interrogative, exclamatory, and imperative.
Spelling: Unit 1 short vowels. Spelling homework will be sent home on Monday and is due on Thursday. We will have our first spelling test on Friday.
Social Studies: Map Skills
I hope that the rest of your weekend is fantastic! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I can be reached at [email protected] or (815)623-2837. Thank you! Your children are off to a great start!!! :)
